Manzanita on First
This staircase, in a custom home on the Oregon Coast in Manzanita, is far more than meets the eye. The stair base was built using traditional housed-and-wedged construction in a more modern, contemporary style. This construction method means that the staircase is an integrated whole, being fitted together like a piece of furniture in our shop before delivery and installation. The railings are powder-coated steel and white oak, with a completely concealed attachment for the posts within the structure of the treads. The compound curves of the steel guardrail, and the white oak handrail were completed in our shop on a fixture that matched the dimensions of the framing perfectly. This allowed us to do the forging for the steel, and the carving for the handrail in our shop for a perfect fit and finish prior to installation.
