For this dream home we have done some of our finest work. Custom hand-carved lambs-tongue railings, hand-forged vine elements, and custom ferrum panels in the Normandy style just on the stair case alone. We also designed and built the entry door, including re-lights, windows, support frames and hardware. All woodwork is Western Red Alder, with a rich, dark stain, save for the treads, which we made out of hard-wearing jatoba, a more durable tropical hardwood chosen for its wear-resistance. In addition to the woodwork, millwork and custom iron, we also fabricated much of the structural framing pieces for the home, including the concrete forms to support the stair turret, the turret roof sections, and the dome structure over the staircase. The upper flight of the stair is a semi-free-standing structure which we delivered and installed by crane on the same day as the roof of the turret. We included more process pictures than usual in this gallery to show more of the whole story of this project.
